CareerBound SkillSurvey Job AId

SkillSurvey Job Aid

SkillSurvey assessments have been used over 50 million times by companies to rate job applicants. We use it to create a professional development and career-readiness program personalized just for you!

Let’s get started.  You can also find a video of this job aid here.

  1. Check your Purdue Email for a message from donotreply@skillsurvey.com
    1. The subject will be something like: "Purdue University Krannert School of Management SkillSurvey Assessment - REQUIRED"
    2. (check your spam/junk folder ... it gets stuck there sometimes)
    3. Click the link, and on the page that opens click “Start Now”
  2. Verify your information, and update your major.
    1. If your exact major isn't listed, find one that is close.  This information does not affect your results – it is used by SkillSurvey to develop trends across multiple universities, so it is not possible to include every major from every university.
  3. Work Experience:
    1. If you have had a job, select the Work Experience sections that best describe your role.
    2. If you have NOT had a job, under Work Experience select “Other”
      1. Enter “NO WORK EXPERIENCE”.
      2. Select “Education” for the work industry
    1. Click to accept the disclaimer to continue.
  1. Demographics: Complete the questions or skip to the next section.
  2. Choosing an Evaluator: Good evaluators include:
  • Former or current supervisors
  • Former or current professors or Purdue staff you have a good relationship with
  • Volunteer coordinators (camp leaders, faith community leaders, Club leaders, etc.)
    1. If none of the above are options, family or friends of the family who are currently working and would be willing to evaluate you as if they were considering hiring you to join their teams can also be an evaluator. Impartial and honest feedback is important. Note: You will NOT be graded on your SkillSurvey results, so answer the questions as objectively as you can, and encourage your evaluators to do the same.
  1. Evaluator Information: Enter the contact information for your evaluator.  You MAY enter more than one evaluator, but you will need at least ONE person to provide feedback.
    1. Tip: Let your evaluator know you have selected them, and ask them to respond as soon as they can. SkillSurvey will send them an email asking them to complete the evaluation, so encourage them to watch for that communication.  You can see what the email will look like by clicking “Preview” next to the box where you enter their email address.
    2. Complete the rest of the information including their job title (it doesn’t have to be exact) and the name of the company, and click “Submit” at the top of the page.
    3. You should see a confirmation of “EVALUATOR ADDED”.
    4. If you want to add additional evaluators, click “Add Evaluator” at the top of the screen at this time and repeat the process.
    5. When you are done adding evaluators, move on to the Self-Assessment.
    6. You should get an email from SkillSurvey confirming that a link was sent to your evaluator(s).
  2. Self-Assessment:
    1. Click “Self-Assessment” to move to the next step.
    2. Follow the instructions and complete the self-assessment questions. Remember, you are not graded on your results – the goal is to have an honest understanding of your career readiness skills at this time.
    3. When you are happy with your answers, click “Submit” at the bottom of the page. You should see a pop-up asking if you want to edit your answers or submit them.  When you are ready, click “Submit” again.
  3. Final Report & Next Steps: Once you and your evaluator have both completed the assessment, a member of the CareerBound team will generate the final report. This can take 1-3 business days to complete.
    1. Once the report is finalized, you will receive an email from SkillSurvey to access your report.  You can save it as a PDF, print it, or email the report to someone, for example your academic advisor may want to see the results and discuss them with you.
    2. You can access the report at any time by clicking the link in your email, so you may want to save that link for future reference.
  4. Tracking Your Progress: You will be asked to re-take the assessment periodically (usually at the beginning and ending of each academic year) to gauge how your career readiness skills are developing. If you have questions about this process, please contact the CareerBound team by emailing careerbound@purdue.edu.
