Here's the hypothetical situation. You are using a public computer or lab machine, or any windows computer you don't own. It would typically be difficult to use RemoteApp from these machines because you can't make any permanent changes. Today, the WebClient largely fills this need, but as it isn't perfect yet.
So, if you find yourself on a public computer and find that the WebClient isn't working well for your particular application, there is an option. This process involves downloading individual .RDP files each time you want to launch a remote application. Windows has a built in Remote Desktop Connection that will run these .RDP.. The RDP file tells the Remote Desktop Client which application you want to open. Technically, the "RemoteApp and Desktop Connections" method that we recommend for WIndows 10 users is merely an automated way of downloading and using these .RDP files in a seamless way.
Microsoft has added the ability to download RDP files from the new HTML5 website (The same place you would use the WebClient from).
